Artist Info

During the past twenty-five years, Rudy de Sutter composed about three hundred small and large works for different strenghts. Since 1978, he has worked as a freelance pianist/composer/synthesizer player/improvisator for several music and theatre ensembles, both at home and abroad. Besides his activities in the artistic sector, he also played in bars and hotels, at business meetings and dinner parties for several companies, as well as for dinner clubs.

Rudy de Sutter performed in several European countries and cooperated with the following directors, choreographers, writers and musicians: Tone Brulin, Jaap Blonk (Nl) François Beukelaers, Hugo Claus, Lucas de Lil, Philippe Deschepper (F), Michel Godard (F), Jean-Louis Jacopin (F), Chris Joris, Rifi Kythouka, Dieudonné Kabongo, Cecile Kayirebwa, Niek Kortekaas, Percy Muntslag, G.T. Moore (GB), Frank Michiels, Ernst Reijseger (Nl), Henk Tjon (Suriname), Greta van Langendonck, Eddy Vereycken, Marcel van Maele...Since 1995, he has worked with guitarist Gilbert Isbin, with whom he makes up a permanent duo.
He wrote scores for productions like: the 'Adoration of the Mystic Lamb' (1981 - based on the triptych by the Flemish Primitives Jan and Hubert van Eyck), 'De Spelers' (1982 - based on the novel 'The Player' of Dostoyevski, performed at the 'Holland Festival'), 'De Staart van de Mandarijn' (Tone Brulin), 'Gras eten' (based on 'Die Dreigroschenoper' by Bertolt Brecht), 'SchizOthello' (based on 'Othello' of William Shakespeare), 'Antigone' (Sofocles).

His lyrical and harmonious piano playing is characterized by introspective movements that swirl towards rhytmic explosions. Passing over the stylistic constraints, he exercises his imagination. Eager as he is to explore new directions, he experiments with the magic of the moment.

The foreign press associates Rudy de Sutter's music and technique with, among others, Luciano Berio, Erik Satie, Paul Bley, Marilyn Crispell, Keith Jarrett, Joachim Kühn, Michael Jefry Stevens, Lennie Tristano...
